Dr. Reynolds, a district staff member who delivered the update, said, “there are gonna be 2 documents that are gonna be developed. 1 is gonna be the stakeholder brochure that is actually the end product for everyone to see, and the other will be a comprehensive action plan, which we'll be working from to ensure that we are staying on course.” She told the board Mr. Paul Pendleton will present the final product at the September board meeting.

The update listed five priority areas assigned to committees: funding; academic focus (teaching and learning); communications and technology; student discipline and special education; and parent engagement. Board members and staff said each department committee reported on progress toward assigned goals and action steps.

On student discipline, Dr. Reynolds summarized the committee’s focus as improving consistency across buildings. She said the goal is to ensure “we're really focusing on consistency across buildings,” so that students in the same grade receive comparable responses when disciplinary issues occur.

Board members asked procedural and contract questions tied to the tentative agenda. Miss Thomas requested that a copy of the student–parent handbook be uploaded to BoardDocs before next week’s meeting and noted the agenda lists the wrong school year; she asked that the recommended action wording be corrected from “2425” to “2526.”

During the discussion, staff identified the Capstone Academy as a special-education program administered through the district’s special education office and Portage County resources; staff said contracts for that program include student information. Board members also asked about a Cleveland Clinic program described as focused on student mental health and typically housed at the high school, where students visit for services.
