The Poplar Bluff City Council convened on September 4, 2025, to address several key issues, including the adoption of a resolution for various board appointments and updates on city projects.

The council unanimously adopted Resolution 20-63, which makes appointments to the Airport Advisory Board, Building Standards Board, Library Board of Trustees, and Planning and Zoning Commission. The resolution received six affirmative votes, with no opposition noted during the roll call.

City Manager Nodel highlighted several important updates during his report. He began by wishing Councilman Robert Smith a happy birthday, acknowledging his long-standing service to the community. Nodel reminded residents that bulky item tags are available for purchase at City Hall until the end of business on September 5, with pickups scheduled for September 9.

The city is also in the process of updating its comprehensive plan, which includes a draft master plan for the Parks and Recreation Department. Public comments on this draft are being accepted until September 12, with a review scheduled by the Parks Board on September 16.

Additionally, Nodel mentioned the ongoing efforts of the code enforcement working group, which is nearing completion. Recommendations from this group will be presented at the next council meeting on October 6. He also noted an upcoming public meeting hosted by MoDOT on September 23 to discuss improvements to Highway 53, which will impact a significant entryway into the city.

Nodel expressed concerns regarding the condition of the former Doctors Regional Medical Center campus, labeling it a safety hazard and an eyesore. He assured the public that the city is committed to addressing this issue.

The next regular city council meeting is scheduled for October 6, as the meeting originally planned for September 15 has been canceled.
