Glendale Heights is set to enhance mental health support for its residents with the opening of the DuPage County Recovery Center on August 14, 2025. This new facility aims to address the pressing need for accessible mental health services, particularly as statistics reveal that one in five youth experiences mental illness. Community members have expressed concern over the long wait times for psychiatric appointments, often extending two to three months, which they deem unacceptable.

During a recent Village Board meeting, Trustee Savicki highlighted the urgent need for better mental health resources, noting that individuals in crisis often receive inadequate treatment in hospitals, typically being prescribed medication without proper psychological evaluation. The upcoming Recovery Center is expected to provide comprehensive support, including access to psychologists and other mental health professionals.

In addition to mental health discussions, the meeting also showcased the Glendale Heights Mission Clinic, which offers free health services to uninsured and underinsured residents. Trustee Savicki praised the clinic for its holistic approach to health, providing services ranging from lab work to behavioral health support.

The board also announced a community coffee chat scheduled for August 2, where residents can engage with village officials and voice their concerns or suggestions. This initiative reflects the village's commitment to fostering open communication and addressing community needs.
