The Queen Anne's County Commissioners meeting on September 8, 2025, highlighted the celebration of National Senior Center Month with a proclamation recognizing the contributions of seniors in the community. Director Kathy Willis and Senior Center Manager Stacy Borjas presented the annual proclamation, emphasizing this year's theme, "Powering Possibilities: Flip the Script."
During the meeting, Borjas detailed various activities planned at local senior centers throughout the month. The Graysonville Senior Center will host an information and assistance resource table on September 23, aimed at connecting older adults with essential services, including housing and SNAP benefits. Additionally, an ice cream social and live music event are scheduled for the same day.
The Kent Island Senior Center is introducing new activities such as seated volleyball and chair line dancing, while the Sudlersville Senior Center is celebrating the decades with themed events, including movie screenings and trivia related to the 1950s through the 1980s.
The proclamation itself recognized the vital role of senior centers as community hubs that foster creativity, connection, and well-being among older residents. It urged all citizens to celebrate the contributions of seniors and the dedicated staff and volunteers who support them.
Commissioners expressed their appreciation for the energy and involvement of seniors in community activities, highlighting the importance of their contributions to the county's social fabric. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue supporting and promoting the activities and well-being of older adults in Queen Anne's County.
