To prepare, she said the pantry has launched new revenue efforts, including a legacy giving society, an endowment at the Columbus Foundation and expanded grant-writing.

The pantry also described improved data collection and outreach: Julie said staff are doing address “heat mapping” that will show where clients are coming from and that the pantry serves all eight ZIP codes in the Dublin City School district, with one ZIP code (Dublin City School 17) producing the highest volume of clients. She said the pantry will share that heat-mapping data with the city in the next couple of weeks.

Councilmembers asked about the sources of the cash donations and transportation barriers for clients. Julie said cash largely came from faith-community services and pass-the-hat donations at festival events and that many clients use proxies to pick up food or the nearby bus stop. “We do have the bus the bus line right there close to us, so that helps too,” she said.
