San Francisco County is set to enhance its vibrant Union Street corridor with the creation of a new entertainment zone, following a recent government meeting. The ordinance, which aims to support local bars and restaurants, was introduced by Supervisor Sheryl and is designed to facilitate planned events along Union Street, specifically between Goff and Steiner Streets.

During the meeting, Lorenza Rosas, representing Supervisor Sheryl, outlined the ordinance's objectives and the collaborative efforts made with the Union Street Merchant Association and local businesses. The proposed entertainment zone will not only benefit existing establishments but also foster community engagement through events.

Two key amendments to the ordinance were proposed. The first amendment seeks to expand the entertainment zone to include businesses along Fillmore Street between Union Street and Greenwich Street. The second amendment aims to remove a previously proposed cap on the number of events allowed in the entertainment zone each year, ensuring that local businesses can maximize opportunities for hosting events without arbitrary restrictions.

Supervisor Sheryl's office emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with the community to ensure that the entertainment zone operates smoothly and benefits all stakeholders involved. The committee has decided to continue discussions on this item for one week, with a follow-up scheduled for the September 15 rules committee hearing.
