Lake County officials have taken a significant step to enhance the maintenance of the Libertyville campus by approving a contract modification for landscaping services. During the Financial & Administrative Committee Meeting on September 4, 2025, the committee unanimously agreed to increase the annual landscaping contract with Yellowstone Landscape of Wakanda by $23,250, bringing the total to $23,250 per year.

This modification will introduce essential services, including regular field mowing and monthly perimeter cutting, aimed at controlling invasive weeds and improving the overall appearance of the campus. Carl Corrard, the director of facilities and construction services, emphasized that these additional services were necessary to maintain the grounds effectively and to address community concerns about overgrown vegetation.

Committee members expressed their support for the decision, highlighting the importance of maintaining a well-kept environment for both compliance and community relations. One member noted the frequent complaints regarding the presence of large weeds and stressed the need for more frequent mowing to ensure the campus remains a good neighbor to the surrounding area.

In addition to the immediate landscaping improvements, discussions also touched on the development of a comprehensive landscape plan for the Libertyville campus. This plan aims to address long-term maintenance and aesthetic concerns, ensuring that the campus is not only functional but also visually appealing.

The approval of this contract modification marks a proactive approach by Lake County to enhance its facilities and respond to community feedback, setting the stage for a more inviting and well-maintained environment in the future.
