The City of Wildwood is set to welcome a new residential development, Bendix Estates, following a proposal presented during the Development and Zoning Review Committee meeting on September 4, 2025. This project, spearheaded by the Bendix family in partnership with Wayland Custom Homes, aims to transform a 51-acre family farm into a community of 13 new residential lots while preserving two historic residences.
The Bendix family, long-time residents of Wildwood, has decided to sell the property to settle estate matters. The development will maintain the family’s legacy by keeping the two existing homes, while the remaining land will be developed into custom homes. The proposed homes are expected to range from 2,500 to 4,000 square feet, with prices estimated between $1.2 million and $3 million, reflecting the upscale nature of the area.
The project is designed to align with the city’s zoning ordinances and aims to preserve a significant portion of the tree canopy, contributing to the area's natural beauty. The developers also plan to ensure access to essential services, including gas and high-speed internet.
Committee members expressed support for the project, noting its similarity to the successful West Eden development completed by Wayland Custom Homes. The Bendix Estates project is anticipated to enhance the community by providing high-quality housing options while respecting the historical significance of the existing structures.
As the project moves forward, it promises to not only honor the Bendix family's heritage but also to contribute positively to the growth and development of Wildwood. The committee's approval marks a significant step towards realizing this vision, with further discussions expected as the project progresses.
