The Davie County Schools Board of Education meeting on September 2, 2025, highlighted the success of various summer educational programs aimed at enhancing student learning and engagement. Key discussions focused on the accomplishments of multiple camps, including the Read to Achieve camp for rising third and fourth graders, Camp Discovery for rising fifth and sixth graders, and an exceptional children's camp for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
During the meeting, it was reported that a total of 38 staff members supported 157 students across these programs. Additionally, six school-based kindergarten camps were held, serving 142 students with the assistance of two to three staff members at each elementary school. The Mevin Foundation's continued support for the kindergarten camps was acknowledged as a significant contribution to their success.
Laura Martin, the coordinator for Camp Discovery, shared insights about the program, which has been running for three summers and is designed for academically gifted students. The meeting underscored the district's commitment to providing enriching educational experiences during the summer months, fostering both academic growth and community involvement.
As the school year progresses, the board will continue to evaluate the impact of these programs and explore further opportunities for student engagement and support.
