Golf Advisory Board requests $40K for Driving Range Repairs at Water View Golf Course

Rowlett's City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing the local golfing experience by approving a $40,000 funding request for improvements to the driving range at Water View Golf Course. During the City Council Strategy & Planning Session on July 12, 2025, Larry Glick, Chair of the Golf Advisory Board, presented the proposal, highlighting the need for better practice facilities to attract and retain golfers.

The driving range, which has faced challenges in meeting the community's expectations, will undergo repairs that include laying new grass and installing a concrete pad to allow for year-round use, even in wet conditions. American Golf has committed to contributing $25,000 to the project, demonstrating a collaborative effort to enhance the facility.

In addition to the driving range improvements, Glick emphasized the importance of maintaining the course's fountains, which have recently been restored to working condition. The fountains not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the golf course but also contribute to the overall experience for players and visitors.

While the Golf Advisory Board initially considered a third request related to geofencing for golf carts, this proposal was withdrawn due to concerns over pricing. The focus now remains on the driving range and fountain maintenance, both of which are expected to significantly improve the golfing amenities in Rowlett.

The council's approval of these requests marks a proactive approach to investing in community recreational facilities, ensuring that Rowlett continues to be a desirable destination for golf enthusiasts.
