Rowlett City Council allocates $189K grant funding to five local nonprofit organizations

The City Council of Rowlett, Texas, convened on July 12, 2025, to discuss the allocation of funds from a grant program aimed at supporting local nonprofits. The program was established to streamline the application process for organizations seeking financial assistance, following a series of informal requests from various council members and community advocates.

During the meeting, it was reported that the application period for this year opened on March 19 and closed on April 30, attracting five applicants who collectively requested $189,000. The council reviewed previous allocations to these organizations, noting that one group, Keep Rowlett Beautiful, did not submit a request this year due to an existing contract with the city.

Representatives from four of the five organizations were present to discuss their funding requests. The Rowlett Citizen Corps Council, represented by Eric, highlighted their role in emergency response and community support, detailing their need for $100,000 to cover costs associated with maintaining two newly acquired vehicles. The council emphasized the significant volunteer contributions, estimating a return on investment of approximately $700,000 for the city through their services.

Dana Seagler, president of Friends of Rescue Animals, also presented, requesting $20,000 to continue their work at the Rowlett Animal Shelter. She outlined the impact of their programs, including emergency medical care for animals and a trap-neuter-return initiative for community cats, which has prevented over 1,100 kittens from being born in the city.

The meeting underscored the city's commitment to supporting local nonprofits that provide essential services to the community. The council will consider the funding requests in their upcoming sessions, with a focus on maximizing the benefits to Rowlett residents.
