The Waukesha Plan Commission convened on August 27, 2025, to discuss a significant proposal from Bridge Church for a 23,700 square foot addition to its existing facility. The addition aims to enhance worship and gathering spaces, located to the north of the current building in the I-1 Institutional District.
Doug, a city representative, presented the plans, highlighting that the church had previously undergone a rezoning and certified survey map process. The proposed addition will replace an existing building at 1312 Grand Avenue, while two other church buildings will remain. The main access to the church's parking lot will continue to be from Sunset Drive, with some secondary access points to Grand Avenue being closed off.
The site plan indicates that the new addition will include a large auditorium and gathering area, with the former auditorium space being repurposed for other church functions. A new stormwater facility will also be integrated into the site design, along with landscaping enhancements, including foundation plantings and a patio space facing Grand Avenue.
The architectural design features a mix of materials, including masonry to match the existing structure, and aims to improve the building's street presence with additional windows. The commission noted that the addition would not conflict with any buried refuse from a former city dump nearby, as studies have confirmed the area is safe for development.
The commission recommended approval of the final site plan, contingent upon addressing comments from city departments and obtaining necessary sign permits for the new addition. The proposal reflects the church's commitment to expanding its facilities to better serve the community.
