A significant zoning change is on the horizon for Indianapolis, as the Metropolitan Development Commission prepares to review two key petitions aimed at enhancing local neighborhoods.
The first proposal seeks to rezone 28.49 acres at 3350 North German Church Road from multiple zoning districts to a Special Use (SU1) designation for religious purposes. This area falls within a floodway and is intended specifically for religious uses. The petitioners expressed their agreement with the staff's recommendation for approval, which has garnered support from the Warren Township Development Association. The proposal will be placed on the Metropolitan Development Commission's agenda for September 17.
In a separate discussion, RG Development is pushing for a rezoning of 441 South Bridal Street from C4 to D5. This change aims to align the property with the surrounding neighborhood and facilitate the rebuilding of a house currently under a demolition order due to its poor condition. Staff members noted that the historical use of the property does not match its current zoning, and they support the petition to allow for continued residential use.
These developments reflect ongoing efforts to adapt zoning regulations to better serve community needs and enhance residential areas in Indianapolis.
