City Council Considers Ordinances for Truck Speed Limits and Weight Restrictions

Sheridan officials are considering new measures to enhance safety and regulate traffic in the city following recent concerns about speeding trucks and noise pollution. One resident highlighted the need for stricter regulations on truck speeds, proposing that commercial vehicles over 15,000 pounds should be limited to a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour within city limits. This suggestion comes in light of alarming incidents, including a tragic accident involving a 95-year-old man, which has raised awareness about the dangers posed by fast-moving trucks.

Additionally, there was a call for an ordinance to prohibit the use of Jake brakes throughout the city, which are known to create significant noise disturbances. The resident, drawing from his 40 years of trucking experience, argued that such measures are necessary to improve the quality of life for residents.

Concerns were also raised about the frequency of truck traffic on Brook Street, with reports of trucks passing every six minutes. Questions arose regarding whether these trucks are compensated per load or per hour, which could influence their driving behavior.
