Van Buren County Court Approves $60K Ordinance Amendment for 911 Operations

Van Buren County's Quorum Court made significant strides in budget management during its August 2025 meeting, approving key amendments to ensure essential services continue without interruption.

The court voted to amend the funding for the 911 emergency services from $180,000 to $60,000, a decision aimed at sustaining operations for at least one month. This adjustment was prompted by discussions highlighting the need for immediate financial support, as the current budget projections indicated a monthly expenditure of approximately $56,000. The motion received unanimous support from the court members, reflecting a collective commitment to maintaining critical emergency services.

In addition to the 911 funding amendment, the court also addressed the need for increased insurance coverage for county assets. An appropriation ordinance was passed to allocate $4,464.11 for additional auto equipment insurance, which includes coverage for vehicles used by the sheriff's office and the Van Buren County Fairgrounds.
