LADOT Launches Traffic Project and Girls Build LA Program Celebrated by Mayor Bass

The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has launched a new traffic and parking project, marking the beginning of phase 1, which involves the removal of peak hour traffic lanes in low-traffic areas. Future phases will introduce dedicated bus lanes, protected bike lanes, and expanded pedestrian zones, reflecting a commitment to creating a more accessible urban environment.

Additionally, Mayor Karen Bass celebrated the completion of the Girls Build LA program, a three-week initiative that introduces high school girls to careers in construction, engineering, and aviation trades. Participants had the opportunity to tour aviation and infrastructure projects at local airports and gain hands-on experience alongside women professionals in these fields. The meeting also highlighted the opening of fall registration for the Play LA program, which offers recreational activities for youth aged 5 to 17 at various city pools and recreation centers. With a registration fee of just $10, the program is designed to be inclusive and adaptable for all abilities. Some locations even provide fee waivers for qualified residents, ensuring that all children have access to recreational opportunities.

In a celebratory moment, Council President Marquise Harris Dawson joined community members to officially open a newly renovated playground at St. Andrews Park in South LA. This project, which had been in the works since before the pandemic, underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing public spaces for community enjoyment.
