School Board Implements Incentive Program for Teachers to Improve Scores

As the new school year kicks off, the Bullhead City School District is implementing an innovative incentive program aimed at boosting academic performance among students. During the recent board meeting on August 21, 2025, a proposal was introduced that will reward teachers in grades three through eight with televisions and gift cards for improving student scores in English Language Arts (ELA), math, and science.

The initiative, spearheaded by a board member, is designed to motivate educators to enhance their teaching effectiveness and student outcomes. The program will award a TV to the teacher with the best scores in the first quarter, with subsequent quarters featuring a mix of TVs and gift cards as prizes. Notably, the criteria for winning will evolve throughout the year, shifting from simply achieving the highest scores to recognizing improvement and mastery of subjects.

The board member emphasized the importance of this program, stating, "I decided to put my money where my mouth is," highlighting a personal investment in the initiative. The first quarter will see the distribution of a TV, while the second quarter will offer a $250 gift card, with similar prizes for the third and fourth quarters.

Additionally, the board discussed the need for contributions towards the gift cards, which are already secured and waiting in the warehouse for distribution. This collaborative effort aims to foster a supportive environment for teachers and ultimately enhance student learning experiences.
