The Venice City Council's recent budget workshop highlighted an exciting ongoing project: the digitization of the local newspaper, the Gondolier. This initiative, which began in 2018, aims to preserve the history of Venice by converting physical copies of the Gondolier into digital format. The project has already received recognition, winning an award from the State Historical Society.

Currently, the digitization process has successfully archived issues from 1946 to the 1980s, with plans to continue until all editions up to February 2003 are available. While these digital copies are not publicly accessible at the library, residents can access them through local library subscriptions or visit the Archives and Research Center for free online access.

City officials emphasized the importance of this project for historical preservation and community engagement.
