The Salinas City Council convened on May 13, 2025, to address several important community matters, including proclamations recognizing Historic Preservation Month, National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, and National Public Works Week.

The meeting began with Mayor Dennis Donahue emphasizing the importance of public participation while ensuring safety due to room capacity limits. The council welcomed attendees both in-person and via Zoom, providing translation services for Spanish-speaking residents.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the proclamation of May as Historic Preservation Month. Steven Christie, division chief of EMS for the Salinas Fire Department, shared impactful statistics about the department's work, including responding to over 13,500 medical emergencies in the past year. He highlighted the dedication of EMS professionals and shared a heartfelt letter from a patient whose life was saved by their quick response. The theme for this year’s EMS Week is "We Care for Everyone," underscoring the commitment of first responders to the community.

Additionally, the council proclaimed May as National Public Works Week, recognizing the essential services provided by public works professionals. This acknowledgment aims to raise awareness about the importance of infrastructure and services that contribute to the health and well-being of Salinas residents.
