Bossier Parish School Board has taken a significant step to enhance support for military families by approving a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the 2d Force Support Squadron Military and Family Readiness Center at Barksdale Air Force Base. This decision, made during the regular session on May 1, 2025, aims to establish an Emergency Family Assistance Center that will provide crucial resources during crises.
The initiative was presented by Holly George, supervisor of special programs, who highlighted the need for a centralized support system for military families. The MOU will allow the readiness center to coordinate various agencies to assist families in emergencies, such as base evacuations or access issues. This proactive measure addresses a gap identified during a departmental review, ensuring that military families have immediate access to necessary support in times of need.
In addition to this key decision, the board discussed staffing for a new program aimed at supporting students with special needs. The anticipated staffing includes two certified special education teachers, two paraprofessionals, and one behavior-focused clinician, totaling five staff members dedicated to enhancing educational outcomes for these students.
These developments reflect the Bossier Parish School Board's commitment to both educational excellence and community support, particularly for those connected to the military. The establishment of the Emergency Family Assistance Center is expected to significantly improve the resources available to families during critical situations, reinforcing the board's role as a vital community partner.
