The Quincy Board of License Commissioners convened on May 13, 2025, to discuss several key licensing requests that will enhance community events and local business offerings.
The board approved a one-day beer and wine license for the Jimmy Kennedy Memorial Run for ALS, scheduled for June 7 at Pageant Field. This event, which follows the 27th annual Squirrel Run, aims to provide refreshments for participants and attendees, building on the success of last year's gathering.
In another significant decision, the board granted a special use permit for the Friends of the Ruth Gordon Amphitheater. This permit allows for a series of events featuring liquor licenses on select Friday evenings and during festivals throughout the summer. The events are set for June 11, July 18, and August 15, among others, promising to bring community engagement and entertainment to the amphitheater.
The board also approved a common victual license for Adam Shaw Supermarket, located at 494 C Street. This license will enable the store to expand its offerings to include deli items, specifically cold cut sandwiches and salads, enhancing the convenience for local shoppers.
Additionally, a change in management and directorship for the Packaging Center, operating at Stop and Shop on Newport Avenue, was approved. The new manager, John Willis, brings extensive experience from his 24 years with the company, ensuring continuity in operations and compliance with alcohol sales regulations.
The meeting concluded with the acceptance of minutes from the previous hearing and a reminder of the next meeting scheduled for May 27. These decisions reflect the board's commitment to supporting local events and businesses, fostering a vibrant community atmosphere in Quincy.
