The Concord School District is actively engaging students and staff in a series of focus groups aimed at enhancing the educational experience across its schools. During a recent Instructional Committee meeting, it was revealed that these focus groups are designed to gather insights on student and staff experiences, with a particular focus on fostering a sense of belonging and support within the school community.

The initiative includes participation from students at Runeland and Concord High School, where students voluntarily signed permission slips to join the discussions. School leadership has been tasked with selecting a diverse group of students to ensure a comprehensive representation of the student body. This includes students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and those involved in student government, among others.

Tim Herbert, a representative from Concord High School, explained that the selection process involved advisers reaching out to students who expressed interest, ultimately resulting in a random selection of 30 participants. The focus groups are structured to explore key themes such as academic expectations, professional development, and overall school culture.

The feedback gathered from these sessions will be instrumental in identifying areas for celebration and growth within the district. As the focus groups continue, the district aims to create a more inclusive environment that supports both students and staff, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued. The outcomes of this initiative are expected to inform future strategies and improvements within the Concord School District.
