The Worcester School Committee celebrated notable achievements during their recent meeting, highlighting the accomplishments of local students who have excelled in various competitions.
The committee recognized Daya Kambari, a senior at Doherty Memorial High School, for being named the 2025 Massachusetts Distinguished Young Woman of the Year. This prestigious title is awarded to young women who demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, and personal development. Daya's achievements include her commitment to dual enrollment courses at Quincy Community College and extensive volunteer work. The committee expressed their pride in her accomplishments and wished her success as she prepares to compete in the national competition next month in Alabama.
In addition to Daya's recognition, the committee also congratulated the Burncoat High School student-run theater club for their participation in the state finals of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild (METG) Drama Festival. The students performed "The Price" by Don Zolotis, showcasing their talent in a competitive environment that includes over 100 high schools across the state.
These recognitions not only celebrate individual achievements but also highlight the commitment of Worcester schools to fostering talent and leadership among their students. The committee's support underscores the importance of academic and extracurricular excellence in shaping future leaders.
