A significant feature of the proposed facility is the inclusion of a basement, which would serve multiple purposes. The basement is intended for training exercises and could also provide additional storage space for village records, addressing potential future needs. The fire department highlighted the importance of creating reasonable living quarters that ensure privacy and personal space, along with designated decontamination zones and separate laundry facilities.

The presentation underscored the need for a multipurpose training room, which is currently lacking. This space would facilitate ongoing training for new recruits, a critical aspect given the department's high turnover rate. The proposed facility would also serve as a community space, offering a warming and cooling center and a venue for public safety education.

The planning process involved collaboration with various village members and a competitive selection of architectural firms. After reviewing qualifications from 11 firms, the department selected a team that provided insights into the building's requirements and presented three design options to the village board.
