In the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, the LW Conder Integrated Magnet School is making waves with its innovative strings program, captivating the community and nurturing young talent. During a recent meeting of the Richland School District Two Board of Trustees, the spotlight shone brightly on this unique initiative, which has been enriching the lives of nearly 200 students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Established in 2013, the Superstar Strings program is designed to challenge and inspire advanced string students. This year marked a significant milestone as the program welcomed its very first pre-kindergarten students, expanding its reach and influence. The dedication of these young musicians is evident, as they participate in lessons twice a week, honing their skills and preparing for performances that showcase their hard work.

The program has garnered impressive accolades, with students consistently earning superior ratings at South Carolina's prestigious solo and ensemble competition. After-school practice sessions have cultivated a dedicated group of 25 to 45 string players each year, who not only entertain audiences at school events but also represent the district at community presentations.

The achievements of the Superstar Strings group are noteworthy. They have received excellent and superior ratings from the South Carolina Orchestra Performance Assessment and the Carowinds Musical Festival. This year alone, they earned superior ratings with distinction at the Concert Performance Assessment, alongside an impressive tally of 10 excellent ratings and 24 superior ratings.

As the meeting concluded, the excitement was palpable as the Conder Stream student performing group took the stage. With a warm greeting, they introduced their performance of "First Finger Rock" and "Royal Promenade," leaving the audience in awe of their talent and dedication.
