During a recent Administrative-Finance Committee meeting, Councilman Tackett emphasized the importance of local charters, stating, "We just ask them to please... let us do that job that they asked us to do." This sentiment was echoed by several council members who expressed concerns about the current legislature's lack of institutional history regarding home rule.

Councilman Carter, who expressed his support for the resolution, noted the need for collaboration, saying, "I think this is really important." He, along with other council members, requested to be cosponsors of the legislation aimed at reinforcing local authority in decision-making processes, particularly in land use matters where local expertise is crucial.

Despite the enthusiasm from most council members, Councilman Street voiced skepticism about the effectiveness of their request, humorously labeling it a "hell no" to the idea of expecting cooperation from the state. Nevertheless, the council remains united in their push for greater autonomy, with multiple members eager to add their names to the resolution.

In addition to the legislative discussion, the committee also addressed budgetary matters, including a proposal to allocate $3 million from the general fund for fire service contingency. This proposal is set to be tabled for further discussion in June, as council members prepare for upcoming budget hearings.
