Mental Health Work Group Proposes Kansas Awareness Initiatives and Resources

The Kansas Children's Cabinet has made significant strides in addressing mental health support for children and families during their recent Early Childhood Recommendations Panel Meeting on June 20, 2025. A key outcome from the meeting is the proposal for a dedicated mental health support landing page, aimed at providing easily accessible resources for individuals and organizations.

The panel emphasized the importance of creating a unified message about mental health, highlighting the need for collaboration among agencies to normalize discussions around mental health issues. This initiative seeks to ensure that everyone understands the importance of mental health and has access to necessary resources.

In addition to the landing page, the panel discussed the potential for a mental health convening in the fall, which would bring together various stakeholders to address gaps identified in recent workforce studies. This gathering aims to foster thorough discussions on mental health needs and solutions.

The panel also proposed a series of "mental health moments" and a video series titled "Mental Health Matters," which would be featured on the landing page. These resources are designed to promote conversations about mental health, build resilience among parents and educators, and clarify available mental health services in Kansas.

Looking ahead, the panel aims to develop an educator toolkit to help manage stress and establish comprehensive mental health policies and procedures for partnering agencies. These initiatives are expected to enhance support for mental health in early childhood education settings and beyond.
