Texas game wardens and first responders showcased their dedication during a recent emergency response, rescuing over 400 individuals from rapidly rising waters in the Hill Country. On a day marked by severe flooding, 375 game wardens participated in search and rescue operations, utilizing more than 475 assets to ensure public safety. Their efforts resulted in 33 life-saving evacuations, demonstrating a remarkable team effort among various agencies.
Tim Birdsong, director of the Inland Fisheries Division of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, also addressed the committee, discussing the impacts of flooding on fish and wildlife. He highlighted the importance of river restoration investments made after previous catastrophic floods in 2015 and 2018. These initiatives aim to mitigate future flood damage and support the recovery of affected ecosystems.
