Los Alamos County is strengthening its ties with the San Ildefonso Pueblo, as highlighted in a recent presentation by Danielle Duran, the county's intergovernmental affairs manager, during the Inclusivity Task Force meeting. Duran emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration between the two governments, noting that monthly meetings between County Manager Anne Laurent and Pueblo Administrator John Gonzalez have fostered a productive relationship.
Duran, who is nearing her four-year anniversary in the role, shared that the frequency of these meetings has increased to better accommodate the busy schedules of both leaders. This enhanced communication has been pivotal in addressing community issues and promoting mutual understanding.
A significant highlight of the year was the invitation to participate in the Pueblo's feast day for the second consecutive time, marking a step forward in cultural engagement. Additionally, the county hosted its second council-to-council meeting, which, despite lower attendance due to scheduling conflicts, proved to be a substantive discussion platform for both councils. Duran noted that the previous meeting had been particularly well-attended and productive, showcasing the potential for collaboration.
The ongoing efforts to build and maintain these relationships reflect a commitment to inclusivity and cooperation within the community. As Los Alamos County continues to engage with the San Ildefonso Pueblo, the focus remains on fostering dialogue and addressing shared concerns, paving the way for a more inclusive future.
