The Victorville City Council convened on August 19, 2025, to discuss and approve significant improvements to the city’s roadways as part of the 2025 Citywide Street Improvements Project. The council unanimously approved a notice of exemption and awarded a construction contract valued at approximately $4.95 million to Vance Corporation.
City Engineer Freddy Bonilla presented details on four key projects included in the initiative, which aims to enhance roadway conditions and accessibility across Victorville. The projects encompass roadway reconstruction, restriping, and sidewalk improvements on Richcrest Road, Roy Rogers Drive, Green Tree Boulevard, and Village Drive.
The first project on Richcrest Road involves pavement rehabilitation, which includes removing and replacing the top two inches of asphalt, along with constructing new sidewalks and updating curb ramps to meet ADA standards. The second project on Roy Rogers Drive requires a full pavement reconstruction due to deficiencies in the existing structure, necessitating a complete overhaul of the road.
The Village Drive project, funded by a grant, will enhance sidewalk accessibility and improve traffic flow with new drive approaches and ADA bypasses. Lastly, the Green Tree Boulevard project will address traffic congestion by modifying merging patterns and adding turn pockets to improve safety and efficiency.
Bonilla noted that the bidding process for these projects was designed to maximize cost-effectiveness, with bids ranging from $4.9 million to $5.7 million. The council also discussed the fiscal implications, highlighting that three of the four projects came in on budget, while the Roy Rogers Drive project exceeded initial estimates, prompting a request for an additional $728,000 in funding.
The council's approval marks a significant step towards improving Victorville's infrastructure, enhancing both safety and accessibility for residents. The projects are expected to commence shortly, with updates provided to the public as work progresses.
