Mayor Najarian announces Glendale's cooling centers and veteran recognition event details

The Glendale City Council meeting on August 19, 2025, focused on community support initiatives and upcoming local events. Key discussions included the opening of cooling centers in response to rising temperatures, as well as announcements regarding community activities.

City officials announced that cooling centers will be operational from Thursday through Sunday, with four community centers open from 10 AM to 8 PM. Spar Ice will also provide cooling services from 10 AM to 6 PM. Residents will have access to cold water and air conditioning, and seniors can apply for free fans through the CSP Cares program by contacting the Adult Recreation Center.

In addition to cooling centers, the council highlighted the availability of splash pads at Pacific Community Center and Cerritos Park, which are open daily. The Pacific Community Center splash pad operates from 11 AM to 8 PM, while the Cerritos Park splash pad has similar hours. The meeting also touched on upcoming events, including the first day of school for Glendale Unified School District students, a concert at Brand Park, and a community swearing-in ceremony for Senator Sasha Perez. An art exhibit opening at Adams Square Mini Park was also announced.

Council member Saturia noted that a discussion on the commission on the status of women was postponed to the following week due to the absence of a key member. Additionally, Council member Galanian announced plans for a dedicated webpage to honor local veterans, with a recognition event scheduled for November 11.
