He recounted the sacrifices made by early Korean immigrants in support of Korea's independence.

Jane H. Joo, president of the Heritage of Korean Independence, and Rosa Kim, a trustee at the Fremont Union High School District, also expressed their appreciation for the city's recognition. They emphasized the importance of remembering the contributions of Korean Americans and fostering a strong cultural identity among future generations.

Councilmember Kevin Park shared his personal connection to the Korean community and the historical context of the liberation movement, noting the importance of acknowledging the contributions of Koreans in the Bay Area.
