During the recent Universal City Council meeting, a heartwarming highlight was the recognition of Evan Avery, a senior in high school and a new Eagle Scout from Troop 226. Evan presented his Eagle Scout project, which focused on honoring veterans through the creation of two flag retirement boxes.
Evan explained that one box is located at the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post, while the other is situated at the Universal City library. He shared how he successfully raised funds for the project, receiving generous support from local businesses. Home Depot provided all the necessary building materials at no cost, while Sherwin Williams donated paint for the boxes.
With the help of volunteers, primarily friends from school and fellow scouts, Evan organized a build day to construct and paint the boxes. He expressed pride in the project, noting that the VFW box is already full of flags, demonstrating the community's engagement and respect for this important initiative.
Evan's project not only serves a practical purpose but also fosters a sense of community and respect for veterans, showcasing the positive impact of youth involvement in civic activities. The council and residents alike celebrated his achievement, reflecting the spirit of service and dedication that characterizes Universal City.
