The county has reduced the required number of affordable housing units from 22 to 11 for a specific development project, a decision that has raised questions among community members.

The adjustment stems from a series of approvals and regulatory changes that began with a sketch plan submitted in July 2019, which received approval in February 2020. Following this, a development plan application was submitted in November 2020. Approximately 30 days later, the board approved a significant 50% reduction in mitigation requirements for affordable housing.

The applicant requested to be evaluated under the new regulations that were in effect at that time, rather than withdrawing and resubmitting their application. This request was granted, allowing the project to proceed under the updated guidelines. Consequently, the development plan was approved in March 2021, stipulating the requirement of 11 affordable housing units.
