Since then, they have invested $6 million in stabilization efforts and engaged with local residents to determine the best use for the space.

The proposed community center aims to provide a safe gathering place for residents, offering programs that promote recreation, learning, and workforce development. Brownlee highlighted that the community's feedback was crucial in shaping the project, ensuring it reflects local culture and does not lead to displacement.

The commission's staff recommended approval of the proposal, noting that it meets the zoning code and aligns with the goals of the Forward Toledo plan. The approval is contingent upon 41 conditions, which will be documented in the meeting minutes.
