Dalton Village Committee Advances Housing Plan and Awards Scholarships to Local Students

The Village of Dolton held its regular board meeting on August 4, 2025, addressing several key issues, including budget updates, public works concerns, and youth scholarship awards.

During the meeting, the village administrator reported on the progress of the budget, which is set to be presented to the community after being posted. The completion of the 2022 audit was also highlighted, marking a significant step forward as the village had previously faced delays in fiscal audits. The administrator expressed optimism about moving forward with the 2023 budget.

Trustee Steve provided an update from the public works committee, acknowledging ongoing issues with potholes and tree maintenance. He emphasized the importance of communication with residents regarding public works requests and noted that $868,000 has been allocated for street resurfacing this year. Trustee Steve encouraged residents to report issues directly to him for prompt attention.

Trustee Brittany Norwood reported on the housing committee's efforts to address vacant homes in the village. She announced plans to share committee meetings on the village's YouTube page for better community engagement. Norwood also introduced a new home inspector, highlighting the committee's commitment to improving housing conditions in Dolton.

In a celebratory moment, the board recognized two local students, Jacqueline Mallory and Jayla White, who received scholarships from the Southland Regional Black Caucus. Mayor and board members expressed pride in the students' achievements and announced that the mayor would personally match their scholarships, reinforcing the village's commitment to supporting youth education.
