In a recent meeting of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Board of Education, educators and administrators gathered to discuss a transformative approach to student support aimed at ensuring every student thrives academically, behaviorally, and emotionally. The focus was on implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), a framework designed to provide timely and equitable interventions tailored to individual student needs.

At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to data-driven decision-making. The district plans to utilize comprehensive data analysis to identify students requiring additional support, assess the effectiveness of interventions, and continuously refine strategies to meet diverse needs. This proactive approach emphasizes early identification and intervention, with the goal of preventing challenges from escalating.

The MTSS framework is structured around three tiers of support. Tier 1 encompasses core instruction, where the aim is to ensure that 80 to 85 percent of students succeed through high-quality teaching and resources. If students struggle at this level, Tier 2 offers targeted small group interventions, while Tier 3 provides the most intensive support for those who need it. Importantly, students will receive interventions from all tiers simultaneously, ensuring a comprehensive support system.

To facilitate this process, the district has established Student Success Teams within each school, comprising deans, counselors, social workers, and community partners. These teams will meet weekly to review data, assign evidence-based interventions, and monitor progress, fostering a collaborative environment where every member contributes to student success.

As the school year approaches, the district is poised to implement these strategies from day one, emphasizing the importance of addressing the whole child.
