The Butte County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month, highlighting the vital role of child support services in the community. This resolution, adopted unanimously during the recent meeting, emphasizes the importance of parental support in fostering better outcomes for children, including improved emotional development and academic performance.
The Butte County Department of Child Support Services serves over 6,500 children across nearly 7,700 cases, collecting and distributing over $17 million in child support funds last fiscal year. With 90% of these funds going directly to families, the program is recognized as one of the most effective anti-poverty initiatives in the nation.
This year’s theme, "Why Child Support," aims to educate parents about the benefits of engaging with the program. Parents are encouraged to explore options for debt reduction agreements and to understand the advantages of enrolling in child support services. Elizabeth Holloway, the new director of Child Support Services, expressed her commitment to improving the quality of life for children in Butte County and acknowledged the hard work of her team.
The resolution not only commends parents who consistently meet their child support obligations but also reinforces the county's dedication to supporting families and ensuring that children receive the financial and emotional backing they need for a stable upbringing. As the month unfolds, the focus will remain on raising awareness and encouraging community involvement in child support initiatives.
