Wichita Commissioners Discuss Senior Center Funding Changes and Grant Program Developments

Sedgwick County Commissioners are set to address significant funding changes for senior centers and explore a potential buyout of the county's agreement with Exploration Place during their upcoming budget discussions.

In a recent staff meeting, Commissioner Wise proposed reallocating $50,000 from the aging in-home services program to enhance funding for several senior centers, including Goddard, Cheney, and Mount Hope. This move aims to address the growing needs of seniors, particularly those at risk of homelessness, as these centers play a crucial role in providing essential services. The proposal includes increasing Goddard Senior Center's allocation from $6,000 to $35,000, reflecting the center's rising attendance and success.
