New Housing Development Includes 7 Low Income Units and Accessibility Features

The Santa Barbara City Council's Finance Committee has made significant strides in addressing housing needs during their recent meeting on August 12, 2025. A key decision was the approval of a new housing development that will include 63 at-grade parking spaces and a total of 7 low-income units, specifically designed for households earning less than or equal to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

In addition to the low-income units, the development will also feature 55 moderate-income households, catering to those earning less than or equal to 120% of AMI. This initiative aims to provide affordable housing options in a community where such resources are increasingly vital. Notably, the project will include 4 mobility units to ensure accessibility for residents with disabilities, as well as 2 units equipped with features for tenants who are hearing or visually impaired.

To further support low-income residents, the 7 designated units will be provided with Section 8 vouchers for rental assistance, enhancing affordability and accessibility for those in need. This comprehensive approach reflects the city’s commitment to fostering inclusive housing solutions that meet the diverse needs of its community.
