"We can't do that... unfortunately, because we're a small organization," he stated, emphasizing the limited vacancies that hinder career advancement for firefighters in Margate.

The discussion also touched on the evolving landscape of fire services in Broward County, with Keefe advocating for a shift in perspective regarding potential mergers. He urged the commission to view these discussions not as a loss of identity but as an opportunity for evolution and synergy. "It's really not about loss or gain. It's more about evolution and synergy," he explained, drawing parallels to the historical development of the New York City Fire Department.

Keefe reassured the commission that regardless of the decision made, it would ultimately benefit the community. He underscored the importance of pride in local fire services while also recognizing the advantages of being part of a larger metropolitan system. "You can also have the same amount of pride in being part of that evolution," he added.
