Edmond City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing local infrastructure and community design by approving a preliminary plat for Liberty Park during their recent meeting on August 11, 2025. The council unanimously passed the motion, which will facilitate the development of an 86-acre area located northeast of Coffee Creek and Coltrane.

The approved plan outlines a diverse neighborhood that will feature various residential building types, alongside supportive commercial spaces and green areas. This design aims to create a vibrant community interconnected by a comprehensive network of streets, sidewalks, paths, and trails, promoting mobility and safety for residents of all ages.

Key to this development are four requested variances that will allow for modifications in street and utility designs. These include a reduction in the width of parallel parking spaces and street paving in certain areas, which are intended to enhance pedestrian safety by shortening crossing distances. Additionally, the plan proposes a mix of alley widths and modified lot orientations to improve access while ensuring that safety standards are met.

City Planner Ken Bridal emphasized the importance of these design features in creating a safe and comfortable environment for walking, biking, and scooting throughout the neighborhood.
