The Lake Wales History Museum is gearing up for significant updates and community events, as discussed in the recent City Commission Workshop Meeting on July 30, 2025. Key highlights included the approval of new exhibit panels that will showcase the development of Lake Wales and its primary industries: cattle, turpentine, and citrus. The museum expressed gratitude to Mountain Lake for their financial support in updating these exhibits.

Facilities improvements are also underway, led by Johnny and his team, who are working to enhance the museum's accessibility. This includes repairs to the Yellow Depot deck and the removal of an outdated ADA ramp, with plans for a new outdoor accessibility option to the freight room, which has historically been inaccessible.

In addition to physical upgrades, the museum is expanding its offerings. A major update to the freight room is transforming it into a multi-use space for rentals, traveling exhibits, and small concerts. Most electrical work is complete, with sound and lighting equipment expected to be installed soon.

The museum also celebrated a successful grant application, securing approximately $34,000 from the Tourist Development Council, despite a statewide budget cut. This funding will support various cultural and heritage initiatives.

Looking ahead, the museum is preparing for its 50th anniversary and the 49th annual Pioneer Days, inviting community participation in these milestone events. The membership program has launched with online options available, making it easier for residents to support the museum.
