Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) is set to enhance college readiness for its students following a recent Board of Education meeting where a significant funding proposal was approved. The Board has awarded a contract worth $45,424 to Chesapeake College Plan LLC, a local organization based in Prince Frederick, Maryland, to provide essential college planning and preparation services for the upcoming fiscal year 2026.
Sheldon Taylor, the supervisor of finance and procurement, presented the recommendation, emphasizing the importance of these services in assisting high school seniors with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Maryland State Financial Aid Application (MSFAA). This initiative aligns with state legislation that mandates county boards to support students in navigating financial aid processes.
The Board's decision comes after a thorough review, which determined that Chesapeake College Plan LLC offered the best value among the three competitive quotes required by CCPS policy. The organization has been a partner with the school district since 2014, providing in-person support that includes weekly visits to high schools, where their team engages directly with students and collaborates with school counselors.
This funding will not only facilitate the completion of financial aid applications but also ensure that students receive personalized guidance, a critical factor in increasing college enrollment rates. The Board's approval marks a proactive step towards enhancing educational outcomes and supporting students in their transition to higher education.
