The scouts said their silver-award project included outreach at community events, collaboration with Keep Flower Mound Beautiful, and redesign of a public recycling document. They told the board the troop called 64 local businesses to confirm recycling services and staffed education booths at Smoke and Whiskey Fest, BidoFest and Eco Action Day; they reported reaching 27 people at those events as part of their outreach.

The scouts said they built and placed two battery collection bins with updated signage — one at the Flower Mound Public Library and one at the Community Activity Center — and that they collect batteries monthly. ‘‘I mainly learned… how dangerous lithium and alkaline batteries are,’’ one troop member said, adding that many residents are unaware that such batteries can cause fires or environmental harm if disposed of improperly.

The scouts also explained outreach to local vape shops and said that while most shops did not adopt signage, one shop reported customer inquiries and interest in establishing recycling through Republic Services; another declined to display signage. Jill (last name not specified), the town’s special events manager, presented a recap of Parks & Recreation Month and a detailed report on the July 4 Independence Fest. She said the children’s parade drew an estimated 25,500 participants and the evening portion at Bakersfield Park peaked at about 20,000 guests. ‘‘We had over 25,500 participants in the children’s parade,’’ Jill told the board. John Haber, the town’s parks, trails and landscape manager, told the board the developer was offering the town a park area substantially larger than the 2.82 acres minimum allowed under a 50% reduction for conservation subdivisions; the total offered acreage, including areas in the scenic buffer, is 9.35 acres.

Jamieson Pinson, a planner with McAdams, and developer Tyler Adbourne described the site as a conservation-oriented park centered on an existing pond and said the plan leaves room for parking, shoreline access, and trails. He told the board he is willing to work with staff on dredging and water-level improvements and to grant acreage beyond the minimum dedication so the town has management control of the buffer.

Board members pressed staff and the developer on pond health, longevity of water levels, and stormwater flows.
