The Southeast Polk Community School District is making significant strides in enhancing its facilities, as detailed in a recent government meeting. Key updates include substantial improvements to building envelopes, interior finishes, and site security measures across various schools.

The most notable progress has been in roofing upgrades at the junior high and Four Mile buildings. The contractor has successfully installed new roofing materials, with final touches scheduled for completion next week. This project has proven effective, especially during recent heavy rains, ensuring the buildings remain watertight.

Interior renovations have also been a focus, with extensive flooring work completed at both the junior high and high school. New carpets and luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring have transformed classrooms, creating a refreshed learning environment. Additional painting and minor repairs are ongoing as the school year approaches.

In terms of safety, the installation of concrete bollards at Four Mile has enhanced security by separating the east parking lot from student walkways. This improvement, along with sidewalk replacements, has been well-received by school leadership.

Concrete repairs at the high school have also been finalized, addressing necessary maintenance on both the east and west sides of the building. The contractor, Grimes Asphalt, has been commended for their quality work and responsiveness to any issues that arose during the project.
