Public Works Approves $479K Contract for Waveney Parking Lot Reconstruction

A significant infrastructure project is set to transform the Western parking lot at Waveney, as the New Canaan Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a contract with Peter Lani Inc. for $479,664.19. The project, which includes milling, reclaiming, and repaving the parking area, aims to enhance both functionality and aesthetics in the town.

During the August 5 meeting, officials discussed the importance of using traditional asphalt for the parking aisles, citing concerns about the durability of pavers in high-traffic areas. "We don't really have a lot of data on how long these pavers would last," one member noted, emphasizing the need for a practical approach to the project.

The Board expressed enthusiasm about the potential beautification benefits of the project, with one member highlighting the value of a recent site visit that provided clarity on the project's scope. "When you actually go out there and see it, you understand how big a project it is to rip the parking lot up and replace it," they remarked.

In addition to the Waveney project, updates on ongoing public works were shared, including the paving schedule for various roads and the completion of crack sealing on multiple streets. The Board also addressed concerns regarding the timing of roadwork on South Avenue, assuring residents that construction would be completed before the school year begins.
