A kitchen incubator is set to become a reality in North Miami, as city leaders discuss plans to establish three fully equipped cooking spaces for local chefs and food entrepreneurs. During the recent CRA Advisory Committee meeting, the concept sparked curiosity and excitement among members, with one member humorously questioning, “What the heck is a kitchen incubator?”
The incubators will provide aspiring cooks the opportunity to prepare meals on-site without the need for their own kitchen facilities. This initiative aims to support local culinary talent and foster entrepreneurship in the community.
The discussion also touched on the financial status of Nomi Village, the organization behind the incubators, which faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite being behind on rent, representatives assured the committee that they are working on an amended lease agreement and are committed to fulfilling their financial obligations to the city. “We’re not going nowhere. We have 1.3 invested,” one member stated, emphasizing their dedication to the project.
Additionally, concerns about noise from events held at Nomi Village were raised, with committee members expressing appreciation for efforts to address these issues. The meeting concluded with a motion to approve the plans for the kitchen incubators, which passed with a vote of 4-1.
As the city prepares for its next meeting in September, the kitchen incubator initiative stands out as a promising development for North Miami’s culinary scene, potentially revitalizing local businesses and enhancing community engagement.
