At the July 29, 2025, Commissioner’s Meeting in Lawrence County, a series of significant resolutions aimed at enhancing community services were approved, focusing on mental health and family support programs.

One of the standout discussions centered on a renewal contract with Arise, which operates the Bridal Shelter of Lawrence County. This contract, valued at $85,000, will fund mental health support services for trauma victims, including therapy sessions in local jails and transitional housing programs. Scott Baldwin, representing the mental health and developmental services office, emphasized the importance of these services, stating, “We welcome the support for trauma victims and the transitional living housing program.”

Additionally, the commissioners approved a new contract with Glade Run Lutheran Services for $350,000. This initiative aims to reunite families where children have entered foster care, providing essential case management and housing support. Baldwin highlighted the program's success, noting, “We’re looking to expand our efforts to bring families back together.”

The meeting also included discussions on various other service contracts, including those with the New Outlook Academy and Summit Academy, both of which provide residential programs for youth. These programs are crucial in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations in the region.

In total, resolutions 209 through 216 were unanimously approved, reflecting a strong commitment from the Lawrence County Commissioners to bolster community support systems without imposing additional costs on taxpayers. The anticipated outcomes of these contracts are expected to significantly enhance the quality of life for many residents, particularly those facing mental health challenges and family disruptions.
