At the recent Bradenton City Council meeting, community support took center stage as representatives from the DeSoto Society highlighted their significant contributions to local charities. Over the past 20 years, the society has donated more than $1 million to various causes, averaging around $75,000 annually to meet local needs.
Gus, a spokesperson for the society, emphasized the importance of their work, particularly in light of ongoing city park expansions and economic development efforts aimed at revitalizing the area around Seventeenth Avenue. He noted that the society is also working on a project to create a replica of the Barcarota Courtyard from Spain, which will serve as a venue for nonprofit meetings and community gatherings.
The mayor acknowledged the DeSoto Society's role in fostering community stability and expressed gratitude for the partnership between the society, Manatee County, and the city of Bradenton. The meeting concluded with a celebratory moment as members of the DeSoto Society gathered for a photo, underscoring their commitment to enhancing community life through their charitable efforts.
